چکیده

The paper investigates the relation between the parameters of an autoregressive moving average (ARMA) model and its equivalent moving average (EMA) model. On the basis of this relation, a new method is proposed for determining the ARMA model parameters from the coefficients of a finite-order EMA model. This method is a three-step approach: in the first step, a simple recursion relating the EMA model parameters and the cepstral coefficients of an ARMA process is derived to estimate the EMA model parameters; in the second step, the AR parameters are estimated by solving the linear equation set composed of EMA parameters; then, the MA parameters are obtained via simple computations using the estimated EMA and AR parameters. Simulations including both lowand high-order ARMA processes are given to demonstrate the performance of the new method. The end results are compared with the existing method in the literature over some performance criteria. It is observed from the simulations that our new algorithm produces the satisfactory and acceptable results. © 2006 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

A Cumulant-based stock market volatility modeling – Evidence from the international stock markets

The pourpose of this paper is to propose the Stock Market (SM) volatility estimation method based on the Higher Order Cumulant (HOC) function, and to apply it to the cases when stock market returns have a non Gaussian distribution and/or when a distribution of SM innovations is unknown. The HOC functions of the third and fourth order are used not only as a means for non Gaussian model testing b...

Change Point Estimation of the Stationary State in Auto Regressive Moving Average Models, Using Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Singular Value Decomposition-based Filtering

In this paper, for the first time, the subject of change point estimation has been utilized in the stationary state of auto regressive moving average (ARMA) (1, 1). In the monitoring phase, in case the features of the question pursue a time series, i.e., ARMA(1,1), on the basis of the maximum likelihood technique, an approach will be developed for the estimation of the stationary state’s change...

On some parameter estimation problems in alpha-stable processes

Current algorithms for estimating the parameters of a symmetric alpha-stable ARMA process are either highly non-linear, or assume small MA orders (q 3), or invoke the minimum-phase assumption. We use results from the statistics literature to show that the normalized correlation is well-de ned; we show that the normalized cumulants are also well-behaved. We propose to use the correlation to esti...

Computation of a useful Cramer-Rao bound for multichannel ARMA parameter estimation

It has been shown earlier that the problem of multichannel autoregressive moving average (ARMA) parameter estimation can be tackled in a computationally efficient way by converting the given process into an equivalent scalar, periodic ARMA process. This correspondence presents methods to compute the Cramer-Rao bound associated with the identification of the scalar ARMA equivalent of a given mul...
